During the 2012 Capitol Cup Columbus Day tournament, St. Paul’s School senior Liam Garrity-Rokous ran a shoe drive under the name of Kleats4Kids to benefit underprivileged youth in need of soccer cleats and soccer balls.
Kleats4Kids collects gently used soccer cleats, cleans and reconditions them, and donates them back to the community through partner agencies not only in the greater Concord area, but as far away as Malawi.
Although the shoe drive is held over the popular Columbus Day soccer tournament weekend, Kleats4Kids welcomes athletic shoes of any sport or size.
Garrity-Rokous, a three-sport varsity letterman in football, hockey, and lacrosse, has collected more than 550 pairs of cleats and dozens of soccer balls through his Kleats4Kids effort. The majority of donated items have been sent overseas to Malawian schoolchildren with assistance from Go! Malawi.
